EA upset at ‘South Park’ Tiger Woods episode
Electronic Arts is reportedly considering legal action after Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf featured on an episode of South Park poking fun at the ambien loving, sex-crazed golfer.
Titled Sexual Healing, the South Park episode made light of the recent sex scandal surrounding Woods.
The season premier pulled in 3.7 million viewers in the US and in it Cartman and Kenny play an Xbox 360 game (PGA Tour 11) where Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren beat each other up. It covers all the aspects of the scandal, starting with the car crash and finishing with the public apology.
It’s not that what they’re pissed about though. In the episode next to the games console stands a poster of what appears to be Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, along with stacks of boxed video games.
Electronic Arts, which pledged its support for Woods in January, is now considering legal action on grounds of copyright infringement.
“Soon after the airing of the episode the top beef were called in, even [EA Sports boss] Peter Moore was informed of the situation,” said an insider.
“Before the episode aired the marketing folks were already worried, but now they have a lot more to worry about.”
The source added: “While I personally found the episode quite funny, there are definitely a few copyright infringements in there that I’m sure will be dealt with accordingly.”
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 will be released on Wii, PS3, 360 and iPhone on June 8. I doubt it’ll be anything like the South Park episode depicts it to be!
