Blizzard Makes 3.5 Million Dollars in 3 Hours on WoW Horse
Heres something about WoW I just can’t understand. Aside from the monthly subscription fee (seriously, why even pay for the game if you’re gonna have to pay to play it month after month) but Blizzard are also genius in being able to charge for special in-game items.
This time it’s the Celestial Steed: a special in-game mount for World of Warcraft that will set you back €20 (US$25) for this:

The success of this horse steed has been huge so far. Since its release a last week, there was a 7 hour queue of 140,000 people 3 hours after it went live. 140,000 people buying this horse means that Blizzard has made $3.5 million in sales of this alone.
What does this horse do? Nothing. It’s just there for show, a translucent flying horse leaving trails of stardust as it gallops across the sky. Blizzard have not yet released an exclusive mount like this for the game but have tested (and learned its potential) the market with these “pets” you can buy for €10 in its pet store.
This horse isn’t even exclusive. Blizzard can make as much money as possible as everyone who wants one can have one of these horses.
“The Celestial Steed is not supposed to be a limited time offer only, so we will of course add more codes in case the current batch of codes gets sold out.”

Hi here is Florian (;
its normal because wow has over 100 mounts (like this horse) and this texture or effect what you see is very special. That is the reason why the people buy that shit thing.
Myself… no way i never will buy a mount because pro-gamers never buy things for a virtual world
I can think of loads of things i’d rather spend €20 on
They are doing it because they can. They have no reason to stop. And as long as the payed items you get in game do not create an unfair advantage over the ones that DO NOT require payment,The selling will work. I personaly don’t like the idea of buying items like in other free games(without monthly subscription). Wow becomes more and more casual than special. It is a sad thing to happen …..
me either, if i’m going to pay for a game every month (on top of buying the game in the first place), i wouldn’t want to spend something additional for a special looking horse.

I much prefer infoarmtive articles like this to that high brow literature.
