Swedish or Math?
In the next 10 days I need to move house. After living in a gaming house for the past year I have pretty much put my life on hold while travelling the world and doing marketing and public relations things. I had just finished my Diploma in Marketing when I left for Sweden so I guess it was good timing too. Now though I need to know… where am I going to go?
I have a few options but i’m just so undecided. There is one thing that I do know though: I want to continue my studies. There are two universities I have looked at possibly attending in the autumn semester:
Both require different things though for me to be able to enter. It pretty much comes down to two choices. Learn to speak Swedish or learn *gasp* mathematics! In Stockholm University some courses will be in Swedish and some in English, but I still need to pass a basic Swedish exam to enter.
The University of Amsterdam is different though and I can do an entire degree in English but I must pass a mathematics exam to enter. Maths is not my strong point! When I was 15 it wasn’t compulsory to study it in school so I didn’t. Things like this just don’t make sense to me:

Besides, I really want to learn another language and while I think Swedish probably isn’t the most useful (only 9 million people to speak it with!) I think that once I learn one language, others will come easier.
I’m still undecided though! Argh… 10 days!

Oh whoops the time must have been set wrong
Depending on the course I will do will depend on the amount of mathematics I have to do. When I did my diploma I only had to do basic math for accounting. I wouldn’t even know where to begin with this equation though. After staring at the first one for 20 mins I came up with this:
3a/0,25 … and that’s just a guess! LOL
The entrance exam for UvA can be taken from abroad. I would like to fully learn Swedish though since my vocabulary isn’t that bad and if I lived in Sweden it would be easier for me to practice with everyone
If the entrance exam wasn’t an issue would you pick the Univ of Amsterdam over Stockholm Univ? If so then just put time in and learn the math, it’s worth it. As far as languages go, you can always do a 2nd major, or a minor, in a language of your choice. Most schools have plenty to choose from. Also, both schools will probably require you take calculus anyway, so you’re going to do more math no matter what.
My suggestion is apply to both schools, learn the needed math for the Univ of Amsterdam test, and then make a decision after you’ve visited both places. Where is the entrance exam for the Univ of Amsterdam held?
How does ur site say 18 Feb, it’s like 21:00 cet on the 17th now.
omg those math problems are crazy they hurt my head too, I tried to come up with some answers for them, for the first one I got 2-4a
what’s the answer lol? I actually have a headache from looking at this ;(
what this other guy said, apply for both, or maybe find a 3rd option to apply to, give yourself choices. And math is probably required for both (somewhere down the line at least);
Even though I like Swedish more than math, I think math would be easier to learn in a short time versus Swedish.
lycka till min vänn!
9 million?
Pfft, it’s still more viable than learning Maori! Not even one million people speak that fluently!
OMG I see Damien and Leefyjee!
Hello =]
Swedish ofc!
Hey Spike!! Fancy seeing you here! =)
That’s true Damien
Frexuz i’m still in Sweden… don’t remove my FTP account!
a * (1 - 1/2a)
1a - (1/2a)a
a - 1/2
(a-1/2)/0.24 -> (a-1/2)*4 = 4a-2
2-4a-2 -> 4a ?
-4a
(x^-1)/8x^2 -> 1/8x^-3
(y^-7/3)/(y^-7/3) -> y^9/3 -> y^3
((1/8x^-3)(y^3))^-2/3 ?
