Why? Not me. I couldn’t be more proud of the All Whites and their first World Cup performance since 1982. Yes, I wasn’t even born to see the last time they played in the World Cup.

New Zealand went undefeated in their group and that was a result that nobody expected. Nobody even expected New Zealand to be able to score a goal! They went above and beyond, firstly by scoring a goal their very first WC game, then tying with the defending world champions the next game!

Furthermore, something which I must add:
Group F results
1st: Paraguay (5 points)
2nd: Slovakia (4 points)
3rd: New Zealand (3 points)
4th: Italy (2 points)

…I’m just sayin’.

New Zealand, the small nation down under with around 4 million people, 25 professional football players (in comparison with a country like Italy with something like 3000 professional footballers) went undefeated in the World Cup 2010. WELL DONE!!!!

Now that NZ is out I will be cheering for the Netherlands. Hup Holland hup!!!

Slovakia themselves are newcomers to the world cup since becoming an independent nation, and although neither team is expected to make it through the group, I think that NZ should most definitely count this draw as good news.

The funny thing is, Winston Reid, the guy who scored the tying goal from NZ (in the 3rd minute of injury time) was a newly discovered player. The coach found him back in March [2010] via the social networking site, facebook.

The Reid normally lives and plays in Denmark, but announced via a status update that he chooses to represent New Zealand.

Since this is probably NZ’s only point in this years World Cup (their next match is vs the defending champions, Italy), I figured it was post-worthy… plus the fact that Reid was found over facebook, lol :D

The last time they managed to qualifiy was 1982 and this year they did it by beating Bahrain 1 – 0.

Hilariously this is the All Whites (the name of the NZ football team) first win this year as they were on an 11 game losing streak. They have not beaten a top 50 team in the past 3 years, but have climbed up to the 83rd place in the Fifa world rankings.

Even though I think about other teams who didn’t make it through that would probably beat NZ (like Sweden) I am still really excited that they actually made it!

Go NZ!! I’ll be cheering for you.
